These past few days,
I’ve been grateful for a litany of small things.
That the train works.
An empty seat on a crowded train.
Even a handle to hold on to is a blessing.
Getting from Point A to Point B
with little trouble.
In letting go of comforts,
I’ve come to be thankful for the basics.
Even the weather has been kind.
This is Advent for me –
making space for the little things,
for the people I don’t always get to meet daily.
And in these small discomforts,
I’m surprised again and again
by the joy that lies beneath.
