I’ve caught a cold.
A mild sore throat has begun.
I’ve been feeling tired and drained.

I decided to do what is best for me.
I called in sick.

Yet there is so much to be done.
Homes to visit,
families to check in on,
parents to talk to,
and simply to be present to the community.

I want to be at the centre of it all.
Present.
Available.

So, Lord, why am I falling sick?

Are you asking me to pause?
To rest and to remember that I, too, am in need of care?

Teach me to receive, not only to give.
To listen to my body as I listen to others,
and to trust that You are at work even in my weakness.
