I know of people
who are living in darkness.
They fell sick
and missed their exams.
As a result,
they failed their final grading.
So much work
put in until the very last moment,
and then
it all came to nought.
I think of someone
who has begun to feel
that time has gone by too quickly.
Youth replaced by grey hair,
aching shoulders,
a body that no longer feels the same.
What is there to look forward to
when age feels irreversible?
There are worries
about job security,
housing,
paying the bills.
Yes,
many live in darkness,
one despair after another.
But when I welcome the Good News,
the Light of the world
shines into the darkness.
“O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is mercy,
and with Him is plentiful redemption.”
(Psalm 130:7)
