In today’s gospel
You sound utilitarian
and also conditional.
It seems like You’re saying,
“you get what you give.”

I realised, on further reflection, that actually
we don’t need to put in effort to gain insight,
because You reveal the truth to us.

I realise You do not mean that the material I give—
I will gain back more
because I deserve it.

You have invited me to pay attention to what I hear.
You offer me no method,
but You present Yourself as the lamp.

So the measure is not moral effort.
The measure is being attentive to Your Word—
being receptive and not based on merit.

Teach me to make space for Your truth.
