My grandmother was a simple Catholic
whose prayers were often made of a few simple words:
Jesus, I trust in You.
I have often focused my prayers on what You will do for me—
help me, bless me, guide me—
while my grandmother looked back instead
on what You have already done:
Your dying for us.
In her joys and in her sorrows,
in her fears and in her hopes,
she prayed her simple prayer:
Jesus, I trust in You.
Teach me to look back
on what You have done for me.
that in the face of suffering, hardship, and challenges,
I will not run away,
but pray:
Jesus, I trust in You.
