On this day, I reflect on the mission of the Apostle of Charity, St Vincent de Paul. Teach me and show me that charity is more than giving. Charity is accompanying the poor. What is the value of money given if I remain distant from the person who receives it? Money may meet an immediate need, but accompaniment allows me to know the person, to understand their struggles and to walk with them. Teach me not only to give to the poor, but to remain close to them.
