Today, the 1st of January,
is a new beginning,
and the Church celebrates
the Feast of Mary,
the Holy Mother of God.

Calling Mary Mother of God
is not about Mary,
but about Jesus.
This feast reminds me
that Jesus is fully God
and fully human.

I usually begin the year
with resolutions
and goal-setting.
But today, I realise
that I am invited
to begin differently—
to begin by becoming
more like Mary.

The Christian life
does not begin with doing,
but with receiving.
Receiving Christ
without plans,
and without targets.

So I ask You, Lord,
how do I enter this new year
with You?

The future is unknown,
and I feel some fear
not knowing what lies ahead.
Will the ground beneath my feet
be pulled away?
Will there be loss and grief?

I can’t control what is to come.
But I can trust
as Mary trusted.
