In Moments Like This

God the master of time, never gives the future. He gives only the present, moment by moment.

Day 300 – Table of Plenty

We had just finished dinner. The cook had prepared a lot, and we were happy that there would be extras for a hearty breakfast the next morning. As we were cleaning up, we heard children outside asking for empty bottles. Curious, we peeked out and saw four children, between 1 and 1.4 metres tall. We could not tell if they were 6 or 12 years old. They looked dishevelled and tired. We invited them into our kitchen. They ran off and returned with a middle-aged woman. She was the mother of the only boy in the group. She explained that she had come from the mountains, where people had been killed over the land. She had come to stay with her best friend, whose children were the other three. We served them what was left from dinner. They wolfed down the food. Not one morsel of rice was left. They were so hungry and so thirsty. Today, I was reminded why our kitchen is separate from our house. So that anyone who is hungry can come in and eat any time. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Last night, You came to our door as a stranger.
